01. - 04. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky - Suite No.3 in G major, op.55 [41'11]
Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Lorin Maazel
05. - 08. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky - Suite No.4 in G major, op.61 'Mozartiana' [26'14]
L'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande conducted by Ernest Ansermet with Ruggiero Ricci- violin
Decca Eloquence Australia 4762723 (recorded June 1977 and December 1966; this CD release 2004)
(flac and scans)
Recording venues: Sofiensaal, Vienna and Victoria Hall Geneva
Recording engineer: James Lock; Producers: James Mallinson and John Mordler
Here's another interesting coupling of vintage Decca recordings from their Australian branch. This was the first issue of the Ansermet on CD outside Japan and is quite a rare recording. The Maazel is, of course, much better known and has been reissued several times. Both recordings and performances are very fine with Ruggiero Ricci dazzling in the fiddle solos of Mozartiana.
