If it is sound quality you are concerned with, there has been little advance since 1963 – I jumped out of my chair at the blazing opening of the prelude. Schippers’s cast give a rip-roaring performance that reeks of greasepaint and the theatre. By comparison all the others are a little subdued... GRAMOPHONE
