Virgin VBD5614892 (recorded October 1990 & September 1992; this CD release 1998)
Recording venue: St Martin's Church, East Woodhay, Newbury, England
Recording engineer: Mike Hatch; Producer: John H West
Here's another fine collection of French piano music performed by Anne Queffelec. Maybe not as celebrated as her earlier Satie discs, this collection of Ravel's solo piano music has featured prominently on my record shelves for many years. Her unmannered performances make the piano sing warmly and reveal much subtle detail. Whilst individual recordings may be preferred in some works, Martha Argerich in Gaspard for example, but overall I find this very satisfying and Miroirs is a particular favourite.

Prague - L'age d'or baroque (organ music from Prague)
Organ works by XVIII century composers connected with Prague
Pavel Kohout, organ
Most pieces on this remarkable disc radiate an aura of refined melancholy. This recording was a revelation for me, as having listened to and played the JS Bach pieces a few hundred times I hadn't heard about J.F.N. Seger at all. Now I'm convinced that every organ music afficionado should acquaint him- or herself with his work :-)

03. Je te veux* [3'32]

15. - 19. Ludions* [7'16]
20. 22. Trois Petites Pieces Montees [6'15]
23. Chanson Medievale* [3'39]
Danceries (Ichiro Okamoto- director & viols, Kenji Sano- lute & ud, Hirohiko Nakamura & Yoshiko Yanaga- recorders & crumhorns, Pak Konil- rebec & violin, Kenzo Kumei- cittern, saz & lute, Yumi Takahashi- bass viol, Keiji Azami- santour, Mamiko Hirai- mezzo-soprano* and Tomoe Matsui- soprano*)
Denon 33CO-1280 (recorded June 1986; CD issued 1986)
Recording venue: Vega Hall, Takarazuka, Japan
Recording engineer: Kiyokuni Kamon; Producer: Makoto Hagiwara
Here's another relatively rare Saite recording for his sesquicentennial. The performances and arrangements (pre-period instruments?) are suitably weird and wacky, quite appropriate to the composer. I'm not sure how this recording ended up in my collection but it gets occasional plays - although probably best sampled in small doses.
Somewhat self-evident from their instrumentarium, Ichiro Okamoto's Japanese group normally specialises in performances of mediaeval and renaissance European music.

Teldec Ultima 0630-18959-2 (recorded 1989 and 1991; this CD issued 1997)
(flac and scans)
Recording venues: Masonic Auditorium, Cleveland (Disc One) and Saint Paul (Disc Two)
Recording engineer: Michael Brammann; Producer: Wolfgang Mohr
Here's another useful twofer from Warner Teldec. Being an admirer of Hugh Wolff and the Saint Paul orchestra, I picked this up for Hugh Wolff's disc and for the complete Mother Goose, which is excellent. The selection of works on disc two is ideal for the chamber orchestra. I had not expected Christoph von Dohnanyi to be such a fine Ravel conductor but this is also excellent and the Cleveland orchestra plays wonderfully. It's good to have the chorus in the Daphnis et Chloe suite, too. Only the Bolero is a tad disappointing.
I've included the artwork in both downloads in case one is of interest but the other isn't.
