Recording venue: unknown
Recording engineer: Christian Prevost; Producer: Michel Bernard

I purchased this CD set when first issued in Europe - partly because I hadn't seen a previous issue of a period instrument recording of the works and partly because I was intrigued that a young French ensemble would chose an English painter for its name.

My copy of the CD set disappeared when I moved half-way around the world (along with many others) and I was pleased when this recording appeared on the blogosphere for download some years ago. So it is not my rip - many thanks to the original uploader.

To the best of my knowledge, this was only the second HIP recording of the Opus 18 String Quartets, preceded only by the Smithson Quartet in 1989. It remains one of my favourites - forceful and thrilling but without any of the extremes of tone and tempo which put off so many from period performances. The Quatuor Turner was one of Harmonia Mundi's fine "New Interpreters" performers but appears to have been short lived. All members of the quartet were then members of Philippe Herreweghe's Orchestre des Champs-Eysees. Their only other CD appears to have been issued in 2001 on Harmonia Mundi's full-price label and is of Beethoven's Harp and Third Razumovsky Quartets.

Appendix:
Quatuor Turner's recording of the Harp and Third Razumovsky Quartet's was posted here on MIMIC by Duckjammy back in March 2013 (along with the Smithson's Opus 18) but the download link appears to be dead. So I have re-posted my copy here. It may, or may not, be the same rip as the one posted by Duckjammy. Many thanks to the original uploader anyway.
