Musical and historical trajectories between Italy and Turkey
This is a book I myself scaned and edited. Giuseppe Donizetti was the brother of the better known Gaetano. He moved to Turkey and became official composer of the Ottoman court. He also acted as a music teacher and opera impresario.
This very rare volume consists of a series of essays on his life, his turkish world, his relationship with other classical musicians. It includes letters, list of compositions, and other documents (few people know that even Liszt went to play for the Ottoman elite).
The essays era written in either italian or english, all of them having a synopsis in turkish, english and italian.
If you liked Savall's recording of Ottoman music (Cantemir; La sublime porte; Istanbul) you will love this one as well.
