01. Heitor Villa-Lobos - Bachianas Brasileiras No. 2 - IV. Toccata. O trenzinho do caipira 'The Little Train of the Caipira' [4'33]
02. - 06. John Antill - Corroboree. Suite from the Ballet [24'30]
07. - 10. Alberto Ginastera - Panambi. Suite from the Ballet [12'34]
11. - 14. Alberto Ginastera - Estancia. Suite from the Ballet* [11'48]
London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Eugene Goossens
Omega Vanguard EVC 9007 (recorded in August & November* 1958; originally issued on Everest LPs SDB 3003 & 3041; digital remastering 1994)
(flacs, booklet, inlay and cover scans)
Recording venue: Walthamstow Assembly Hall, London
Recording engineers: Bert Whyte & Aaron Nathanson; Producer: Bert Whyte
Another reissue on CD (not my rip, many thanks to the original uploader) of Everest originals by Omega Vanguard in excellent digital transfers.
Among these orchestral showpieces, the standout is the performance of Villa-Lobos'The Little Train of the Caipira with probably the most realistic orchestral portrayal of the steam train that I have heard. Possibly there was some retouching of the score by Goossens the composer but never mind, it works so well.
The suite from little known Australian composer John Antill's ballet Corroboree may seem a peculiar addition to the otherwise Latin-American fare (it is omitted from the later Countdown Media issue) but it is equally boisterous in nature as Ginastera's ballet suites.
Sound quality is as usual with Everest and Omega, spectacular and Goossens elicits very fine playing by the London Symphony.
