In this post Alessandro, Riccardo Primo, Orlando and the comic Partenope are the operas of Handel's forties.
He had just turned 50 when Alcina was first performed. Some of the operas that followed were less successful so their best numbers were reused in the pasticcio Alessandro Severo. Soon after Serse (1738) Handel started the amazing series of English oratorios.
