The selection of popular Schumann lieder was originally made for IMP and has subsequently been re-issued on numerous labels including this one by Regis. Flott excels in so many styles and genres that it is no surprise that in this recital of Schumann songs she could be taken for a specialist in Romantic lieder. With Graham Johnson, the singer's longtime collaborator, it's clear that the two are equal contributors to the success of this recording. For sheer beauty of tone and phrasing you can't do much better than this recital. The Frauenliebe und -leben conveys a real sense of a journey from dazed innocence to numbness in bereavement.
