Australian composer Julian Yu was born in Beijing, China in 1957. Jeffrey Crellin was principal oboe of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

The fine young Australian pianist Jayson Gillham has recently received substantial public attention with his fall out with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra's board over comments he made at a concert containing a work 'Witness' written for him by Connor D’Netto. A somewhat belated tribute to conductor Sir Andrew Davis who died on 20 April 2024 - an addition to the other recordings of works by Carl Vine contained in my Australian Composers download folder. That folder originally included a mp3 download of the broadcast of this world-premiere performance of the eighth symphony The Enchanted Loom.

Strangely, this digital download was issued with an additional track, not conducted by Davis, not on the CD issue and not mentioned in the booklet nor on the inlay card. This is Smith's Alchemy; a reworking of Carl Vine's String Quartet No.3. I have included it here as track 9. An alternative recording of that work, conducted by Ola Rudner can also be found in that Australian Composers download folder (see this MIMIC page).
