01. Richard Wagner - Die Walkure. The Ride of the Valkyries [5'40]
02. Richard Wagner - Rienzi. Overture [11'51]
03. Richard Wagner - Lohengrin. Introduction to Act III [3'32]
04. Richard Wagner - Siegfried Idyll [18'15]
05. Richard Wagner - The Flying Dutchman. Overture [10'52]
06. Richard Wagner - Tannhauser. Overture [14'20]
Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vernon Handley
Allegria 221003-205 (recorded October 1993; this CD released 2003)
(flac and scans)
Recording venue: St Augustine's Church, Kilburn, London
Recording engineer: unknown; Producer: Alan Peters
Here's another recycling of one of the many Royal Philharmonic Orchestra recordings made for their own RPO label, originally issued by Tring Records. This time it's on the minimalist budget Allegria label of Centurian/Membran - no booklet notes or recording details at all.
However, the performances are excellent and exciting. It's a rare chance of hearing the great British conductor given the opportunity to record non-British music. The Siegfried Idyll is especially fine and his Rienzi Overture is the best recording that I have heard.
