The wide range of Iain Hamilton's musical styles are well represented by these three issues, from the avant-garde of the First Piano Concerto to the light music of the Scottish Dances. This latter release is something of a mystery. The Hamilton and Arnold works appear to have been recorded for the small Scottish company Waverley and, according to Discogs, later released, in Canada at least, as the A-side of an LP by Quality Records. The B-side was made up of the three Music from Russia items but I can find no details of their original release. The Maestoso digital release is no help and even that seems to have disappeared from circulation. [It also doesn't separately track the five movements of the Hamilton and four movements of the Arnold but I have listed these in the documentation. John Wilson's recording of the Hamilton Scottish Dances is here on MIMIC and properly tracked.]

Rounding off Alexander Gibson's contribution, this recording of the Lemminkainen Suite, although taking around the same time, seems rather more dynamic than his 1978 recording with the Scottish National Orchestra:

Jean Sibelius:
01 - 04 Lemminkainen Suite, op.22 [44'36]
05 Finlandia, op.26 [7'42]

Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Alexander Gibson

Collins Classics 30132   [recorded August 1989; this release 2010]
