Recording venue: St Augustine's Church, London
Recording engineer: Tony Faulkner; Producer: Christopher Palmer

In the early 1990s, Warner/Teldec released a whole series of recordings of British music with Andrew Davis and the BBC Symphony Orchestra including the major orchestral works of Elgar and an under-rated set of the Vaughan Williams symphonies. One of their  highlights was the superb recording quality provided by the Tony Faulkner and Christopher Palmer team with near-perfect balances.

Here is an excellent collection of popular Elgar. Both the Cockaigne Overture and Introduction and Allegro are particularly fine interpretations and whilst the Enigma Variations would not be at the top of my list, it's still a fine recording. Nimrod in particular is too measured for my taste, although nowhere in the Bernstein camp.
