Here is a first post in a series of recordings of works with orchestra by Walton made by Paul Daniel and the English Northern Philharmonia (the orchestra of Opera North) for Naxos. This series revealed Paul Daniel as one of Walton's finest interpreters.
Here he is ably assisted by violinist Dong-Suk Kang and cellist Tim Hugh (one time principal cello of the London Symphony) who offer dazzling and insightful performances. Whilst Kang doesn't quite match my favourite performance of the Violin Concerto made by Akiko Suwanai with Sakari Oramo, I know of no finer recording of the Cello Concerto.
