Gustav Holst:
01. The Hymn of Jesus, op.37* [21'40]
02. The Ballet from The Perfect Fool, op.39 [10'40]
03. Egdon Heath, op.47 [12'50]
BBC Symphony Orchestra & Chorus*; London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Adrian Boult
HDTT 3811 (recorded March 1961 and March 1962*; first issued in Europe as Decca LP SXL6006 in 1962)
(digital download; 24bit/96kHz flacs; booklet, cover and inlay scans)
Recording venue: Kingsway Hall, London
Recording engineer: Alan Reeve; Producer: Christopher Raeburn
A download of this HDTT release briefly appeared in the c-box in a 24bit/192kHz version. Here it is again in a different download as the music, performances and recorded sound are of such high quality that they deserve a more permanent home.
According to the HDTT website, this digital transfer was made from a London 4-track tape and the recording team is given as Kenneth Wilkinson with Ray Minshull and Michael Bremner. Conversely, the Decca CD issues that I have give the recording team shown above. I suspect that Decca is correct. The current HDTT booklet gives no information at all. An earlier issue of the booklet informs, in one place, that the transfer was made from the original Decca LP but in another, that the source was analog tape - so it is all very confusing.
In view of the large file sizes, I have uploaded as a folder rather than the usual zipped single file so that each track can be downloaded separately. I have also included the booklets from the two Decca CD releases and sleeve scans from the original LP release. In their release, HDTT have placed The Hymn of Jesus third and have the three movements of The Perfect Fool ballet as a single track. I have sequenced the music in line with the LP.
