Albany TROY1616 (recorded December 2014; CD issued 2016)

(Digital download; flacs, cover booklet and inlay scans)

Recording venue: Recital Hall of The Performing Arts Center, SUNY Purchase
Recording engineer: Andrés Villalta; Producer: Andrew Keener

Although the players in this trio are Denver-centric, the recording venue is on the east coast of the USA, just north of New York City.

The very fine hornist, Michael Thornton is first horn of the Colorado Symphony, Yumi Hwang-Williams is its concertmaster and Andre Litton is its Music Director - although on this occasion he lays down his conductor's baton in favour of the piano.

The two contemporary works by American composers are influenced by Brahms. Very obviously in the case of Eric Ewazen's Horn Trio which is intensely romantic in style. Less so in Daniel Kellogg's A Glorious Morning which is more spiky and dissonant. Together with a really glorious performance of Brahms' own Horn Trio they make up a fine recital with Andrew Litton proving to be as accomplished a chamber musician as he is a conductor.
