The now 92 year old Polish-born conductor, Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, was in top form when Vox/Candide made these recordings during his tenure at Minneapolis in the 1970s. The Bartok remain some of the finest recordings of these works; for me, only exceeded by Fritz Reiner and Antal Dorati. The Vox/Candide recordings from 1977 and 1978 have excellent presence and are remarkably clear and spacious in this UK CD issue from 1996.
I have also seen the Bartok recordings credited to the Marc Aubort and Joanna Nickrenz team but I doubt that is correct. And the sleeve notes to this release give no help at all. All three recordings have appeared separately on various labels (including the Prokofiev in an "audiophile"dbx release).
