02. - 13. Claude Debussy - Preludes for piano from Book 1 and Book 2 (orchestrated by Colin Matthews): Book 1 Nos. 1, 2, 5, 6, 9 and 10. Book 2 Nos. 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 12. [45'45]
14. Colin Matthews - Postlude. Monsieur Croche [3'46]
Halle Orchestra conducted by Mark Elder
Halle CDHLL 7518 (recorded June 2007 & May 2008; this CD issued 2009)
(digital download; flacs, booklet, cover and inlay scans)
Recording venue: Bridgewater Hall, Manchester
Recording engineer: Simon Eadon; Producers: Colin Matthews and Andrew Keener
Here's the second volume of Colin Matthews' orchestrations of Debussy Preludes. There has been a change of recording venue since the first volume and Matthews has taken over most of the producer role from Andrew Keener.
Mark Elder's interpretations of Matthews' stylish arrangements are equally fine on this volume which also includes Matthews' composition of a final Postlude - rather more successful than his addition of the pseudo-planet Pluto to Holst's The Planets which ruins the end of Neptune. Elder is equally effective in Jeux as he was in La mer and the orchestral strings are very delicate and transparent.
